Ultrasound is a form of therapy employed by our chiropractor to relieve pain and promote tissue healing. Ultrasound can be instrumental in mitigating pain and improving mobility throughout the body. At Get Wellness, we have been sharing the benefits of ultrasound therapy with residents of Mansfield and Arlington for many years. When you first visit our office, our chiropractor will assess your condition to determine how ultrasound therapy will benefit you.
Types of Ultrasound Therapy
Our chiropractor uses therapeutic ultrasound in two different ways.
Deep Heating
Our chiropractor uses ultrasound to improve circulation to damaged tissues, reducing pain and encouraging healing. We also use ultrasound therapy to improve flexibility and restore your full range of motion.
Cavitation
We also use this treatment to propagate rapid contraction and expansion of minute gas bubbles(cavitation) on the injured tissue, speeding your body’s natural healing process.
Conditions Treated with Ultrasound Therapy
Conditions addressed through ultrasound therapy include:
- Tendonitis
- Joint swelling
- Muscle spasms
- Muscle or ligament injury
- Sprains and strains of the ankle, knee, lower back
- Bursitis
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Frozen shoulder syndrome
- Prolapsed intervertebral discs
- Meniscal injury
What to Expect
Before the exam commences, you will put on a hospital gown. Then, you will be required to lie on a table with a section of your body exposed for the test. Our chiropractor will apply a lubricating jelly to reduce friction so that the ultrasound transducer can move gently across your skin. The jelly also assists in transmitting the sound waves.
The transducer relays sound waves through your body at high frequency. The waves echo as they hit a dense object, like an organ or bone. Those echoes are then visualized on a computer. The produced sound waves formulate a picture that our chiropractor will interpret. After the process comes to an end, the gel will be removed from your skin. The whole procedure takes around thirty minutes, depending on the area that is being treated.
The benefits of ultrasound therapy include:
- Pain reduction
- Reduced tension
- Improved blood flow in the affected region
- The breakdown of scar tissue.
